Restoration of a lapsed deadline

The Supreme Administrative Court may restore a lapsed deadline for someone who, due to a legal impediment or other compelling reason, was unable to meet the deadline:

  • to lodge a request for an administrative review or appeal against a decision, or
  • to take other action in administrative or legal proceedings concerning an administrative matter

How to apply for the restoration of a lapsed deadline

  • Make a written application
  • State in your application what deadline it relates to
  • In your application, explain the grounds on which you are seeking restoration
  • Attach the documents on which your application is based
  • Submit your application within 30 days of the cessation of the legal impediment
  • Send your application to the Supreme Administrative Court registry or use the e-service (link to instructions)

If the application is based on other compelling grounds, a new deadline must be requested within one year of the expiry of the original one. Where there are particularly compelling reasons, a lapsed deadline may be extended upon a subsequent application.

Please notice that you must use either Finnish or Swedish when dealing with the Supreme Administrative Court. Applications for leave to appeal and appeals must also be made in either Finnish or Swedish.
